I love to change my morning skincare routine with the seasons as our skin needs different things just like we do. We change-up our wadrobes and meals as the seasons change, our skincare needs can often change too. In spring as we find ourselves eating lighter meals and wearing lighter layers, our skincare often needs to become lighter too. I find in the spring months I switch-up my moisturiser the most as I often use the same face wash, serums and toners throughout the year (unless I’m product testing). Now of course we all have different skin types and concerns, you need to listen to your own skin and see what products would suit you best through the changing seasons. Of course as we go through the seasons of our life and time goes by, we may need to change our skincare to best suit our skin needs also.
I love to use the Aloe Calming Foaming Wash as I have Dry Sensitive Skin. The aloe face wash is so soothing and calming on the skin and gently foams when aplicated so it feels silky and fluffy when applying to the face. The soothing Community Fair Trade organic aloe vera is sustainably source from farmers in Mexico and hand filleted within 6 hours of harvesting to maintain maximum freshness.
Since my favourite toner in the world (The British Rose Toner) was discontinued from The Body Shop I’ve gone back to using the Aloe Calming Toner. I used this before I knew the rose one existed. Formulated for sensitive skin, the Aloe toner is beautifully delicate and contains no alcohol, colorants or preservatives. It’s a real liquid consistency and is delightfully light and soothing when applied to the skin. If you have sensitive skin, or looking to try skincare for the first time, the aloe range is so gentle and light making it a great range to start with.
I like to apply my toner with a dampened reusable cotton round.
Whilst my skin is still damp I like to apply the Drops of Light™ Brightening Essence Lotion, this smells incredible yet is still gentle and soothing on my dry, sensitive skin. The essence lotion helps serums and moisturisers to sink in where needed and its also the second step to adding moisture to the face, toning being the first. I chose to use the Drops of Light™ Brightening Essence Lotion as it has brightening red algae extract in from the North Atlantic coast which is rich in vitamin C, minerals and nutrients. The moisturising lotion helps to brighten the skin and help even out uneven skin tones.
Now my skin is prepped, it’s time to add a serum. My favourite serum to use is the Drops of Youth™ Concentrate. It’s silky, soft consistency is delightful to apply and is filled with anti-pollution properties. The three wonderfully nourishing plant stem cells Edelweiss, Sea Holly and Criste Marine help to rejuvenate and care for my skin, whilst mallow extract soothes and the Community Fair Trade moringa seed oil from Rwanda moisturises. The new formula of the Drops of Youth serum now also contains Buddleja Extract known for its antioxidant properties.
Last but probably the most important step in my morning routine is applying my Vitamin C Glow-Protect Lotion SPF30. Did you know that wearing a good spf moisturiser that protects the skin from both UVA and UVB rays is the best and first form of anti-aging. Sun damage is called damage for a reason, it damages the skin and damaged skin can age us immensely. So if you want to look for anti-ageing skincare, I would highly recommend reaching for a good UVA and UVB protecting spf first. I love to use the Vitamin C Glow-Protect Lotion SPF30 as it absorbs easily into the skin and leaves my skin feeling awakened and looking radiant. The Body Shop’s Vitamin C range is filled with antioxidant rich Camu Camu berry extract from the Amazonian rainforest in Peru, which contains 60 times more vitamin C than that of an orange!
Looking for something fun to do with the kids, or a Sunday afternoon craft? Me at the kids have so much fun making our own bath melts and lip scrubs. You literally only need three ingredients. It really is so simple and satisfying to do and the end result is perfect for a Sunday evening pamper.
The melts make any bath super silky and luxurious. I really don’t feel like I need to moisturise after using a bath melt.
The lip scrub is perfect for keeping your lips soft, smooth and hydrated.
What you will need
The base for both these DIY’s is ‘Shea Butter‘. You can find raw shea butter online and in some health food shops. My favourite one to use is the 100% Natural Shea Butter from The Body Shop. It’s made in Ghana by and amazing group of women called the Tungtaiya Womens Shea Butter Association. I was lucky enough to meat Madame Fati from the Association, I have a blog piece on this if you would like to hear more about them and their partnership with Dame Anita Roddick and The Body Shop.
For the bath melts you will also need your favourite bubble bath or shower gel, I like to use The Body Shop’s shower gels as they come in many different scents and the all smell so good and make the best bubbles.
You will need a ice cube mould, I find the silicone ones are easier to pop out the finished melt as we will be freezing them. The silicone moulds are so flexible making it simple and easy to pop out your finished melts.
For the scrub you will need sugar. You can use any sugar, although I would recommend a grain sugar such as caster or granulated. Something like coconut sugar might be two soft and give a scrub like texture. Experiment and see which is your favourite sugar
I would love to hear in the comments which sugar you like to use best.
You will need a bowl for mixing and a little pot or jar to keep your finished scrub in. A mini jam jar like the ones you get in café’s and hotels would be perfect. I use my Body Shop At Home sample pots but any small pot or tub would be suitable.
how to make the bath melts
Our house smells incredible when we make these, especially when we come to run our baths.
Shower gel or bubble bath. We like to use a few different scents but you could keep it simple and use one. Half fill each mould and mix in with the shea butter using a small tool such as a cocktail stick. You can skip this part and fill to the top if you wish. There is no right or wrong way. We find that mixing makes it more fun for the kids but both ways make great bath melts.
Once you have made the amount of melts you desire, place them on a flat surface in your freezer. Leave for a few hours or over night to freeze. Once frozen, you could pop one out two melts out into your running bath.
I always add them to a bath when it is running to produce bubbles. If you add them to the bath once it is filled, the melts won’t produce any bubbles.
I find that the bath isn’t oily or filled with residue after using the melts. This will depend on the amount of she butter you use in each bath. I find two melts is sufficient in a deep bath and one for a shallow bath.
How to make lip scrub
Add one spoonful of shea butter with one spoonful of your chosen sugar into a bowl and mix. A smaller grain of sugar will make a gentler scrub. If you would like to make a larger batch, keep the quantities in equal parts.
keep it plain and simple or add a couple of drops of a good quality essential oil to fragrance it. I like to use ‘Neals Yard’ Peppermint oil to make my scrub super uplifting refreshing.
Pop the scrub mix into a container and use right away. I use mine every day to help keep my lips super moisturised and flake free. The sugar smoothes your lips and the shea butter moisturises, giving the perfect base for your favourite lippy.
other ideas and uses
You can use pure she butter as a moisturiser and lip balm. So why not pop a small amount in a little pot for on the go. I keep one in my gym bag and on my desk.
This lip scrub recipe and method could easily be used in larger quantities to make a body scrub. Maybe add some coconut oil, sea salt and a few drops your favourite essential oil. You could make it look beautiful by adding some fresh or dried lavender to make the experience even more luxurious. Perfect for relaxing into a bedtime routine.
I hope you enjoy making your bath melts & lip scrub. I would live to see your creations and hear what scents you like to use.
Below is a video of me and my kids having lots of fun making our own melts and scrubs.
For The Body Shop, their story with shea butter began back in the early 90’s, when Dame Anita Roddick visited a community in Northen Ghana. She was on a search for natural, ethical products she could use in her skincare products ranges at The Body Shop.
I was lucky to hear the story first hand from Madame Fati Paul. Anita’s life long friend and business partner at the body shop at home conference back in February 2020.
There is a She in every Shea
Anita came upon a community of women in Tungteiya. These women were sat in a circle mixing a substance like nothing she had ever seen before. She asked what they were doing. Madame Fati of the women’s tribe explained to Anita that these women were making shea butter. Intrigued Anita asked if she could join in and have a go. Madame Fati took Anita under her wing and showed her how to mix the shea in to a butter.
Mother natures protector
Madame Fati explained how the shea butter protects their skin from the harsh abrasive storms from the Sahara desert. It acts like a barrier to protects skin from the harsh elements, leaving their skin it deeply moisturised and supple. Because of this, the women named the shea tree “The tree of life” and the butter itself “Gold”. All the women had the most beautiful soft and nourished skin because of the process of mixing the shea butter and the end product itself.
For the love of shea
Anita fell in love with the women and their shea. She agreed a fair price to take 5kg’s home with her to test in her products in her laboratory. When testing Anita found it to be such a rich and moisturising component which worked incredibly well in her products. Anita then reached out to the women and asked for a further 5 tonnes! Anita offered to pay a fair price for the shea butter and to also pay a premium on top to enable the community to build much needed resources such as medical centres, schools and pumps for clean running water. The villages continue to develop and grow to this day, providing better living conditions as a result of this partnership.
The power of shea
The Tongayian Women’s Shea Butter Association was setup. To this day 640 women from 11 villages work at the association to handcraft 390 tons of shea butter for The Body Shop every year. These woman each use their expert 18-stage process lovingly passed down the generations from mother to daughter to each expertly produce shea butter in 25kg batches ensuring the highest quality in 24 hours.
Before the partnership between The Body Shop at the Tongtayian women’s tribe, the women didn’t have a say in the running of their own homes or a voice in the community. These women nowhave a say in the negotiations on pricing of the Shea butter and have the freedom to be able to make their own choices and voice their own opinions. These strong, powerful women now have a say in the villages and how they run.
I decided to look-into the possibilities of making my own liquid hand wash, when it became impossible to buy hand wash in the shops and on-line back in April 2020. This was when the pandemic we all know as Covid-19 started to spread across the UK. I love soap bars I but find them to be a little messy, as they can turn slimly and end up making a mess all over the sink. It’s so much easier for me and the kids to use liquid hand wash dispensed from a pump bottle. So with this in-mind I decided to do some research into making my own hand wash. How hard can it be?
As I am a Body Shop At Home Consultant, I have many bars of soap and beauty products around the house (my stock draw is fit to burst). So I decided to see if I could turn one of my solid bars of soap from The Body Shop into a liquid hand wash. I remembered seeing a post from one of my friends. She had tried to make hand wash from a bar of soap from The Body Shop and it seemed to have worked. So I decided to put it to the test and have some fun!
Getting the kids involved
Getting the kids involved was so much fun. We are currently home-schooling due to the lockdown in the UK. Therefore having a variety of fun and practical experiments to do is a great way to bring fun into learning. You only need a few simple kitchen utensils to make the hand wash. You need a hob to melt the soap in the water but it only needs to be on a low heat. We had so much fun trying this experiment out. It was so simple and easy to do, therefore anyone can give this a go.
What you will need
a bar of soap from the body shop ( you will only need 25 grams/quarter of a bar)
500 ml of water
A grater ( or you can chop it up with a knife )
A spoon to stir
A jug or funnel
A hand wash bottle with a pump
Stove or hob to heat up the water
Weighing scales or just cut the bar in to 4 as you only use one quarter.
How To make it
First of all wash out the hand wash bottle you wish to use and make sure the pump has been rinsed through.
Cut and weigh out 25 grams of your chosen soap bar and grate or chop into small chunks, the smaller the chunks, the quicker it will melt.
Measure out 500ml of water and place in a pan, along with your grated 25 grams of soap.
Gently heat on a low heat and stir until it has melted then leave to cool.
Once it has cooled for about 10/15 minuets transfer it into a jug or if using a funnel you can use the funnel to directly pour into your hand wash bottles.
Pour in to your hand wash bottles and leave to cool. As it cools it will thicken in consistency.
After about an hour your hand wash is good to be used.
How did it turn out?
Overall I’m happy with how it turned out. I found the hand wash lathered really well and it did a great job of washing my hands. My hands felt squeaky clean and once they were dry, they felt really moisturised and smooth. The hand wash turned out lovely but it did loose most of it’s colour pigment. It doesn’t stay vibrant like the soap bars. It does the job of a hand was. If you wanted to make your hand wash more antibacterial, you could always add a few drops of tea tree oil. Best of all it was fun to make with the kids and we will defiantly be making more. The house was filled with the most amazing smell during the process. I would recommend anyone giving this a go.
The Body Shop soap bars have glycerin in, which helps the soap bar to turn into hand wash. I have seen recipes online which require glycerine to be added, in order for the soap bar to turn in to hand wash. This is what makes this a two product recipe
Let me know if you try this, as I would love to hear what scent to tried and how it turned out for you.
More from me…
I have a ‘closed’ body shop at home face book group, which I would love for you to join and be apart of. There you will find an array of advice and information about all The Body Shop Products. . Click on the link below. I look forward to connecting with you in the group.
Being a body shop at home consultant means I get to try the whole range available from the body shop. So today I wanted to share with you my favourite ten products I use every day. I have so many product that love, therefore I found it really difficult to whittle them down to just ten, putting them in order was also a challenge, as I LOVE THEM ALL.
So here is my top 10 count down…
I have decided to count down from tenth place all the way up to number one. so lets start the countdown.
Firstly at number ten is a product which is perfect for spring and summer months – but did you know? We should really be wearing an SPF all year round?! SPF’s help to protect us from harmful UVA rays, which actually speed up ageing. This gorgeous moisturiser is a lovely creamy consistency, therefore it applies easily to the skin and sinks in really well. Perfect as a daily moisturiser, or pair with theVitamin C “Glow Boosting Moisturiser” for even more hydration.
Did you know? If you times the SPF factor by 10 it gives you the time you are protected from the sun rays for? for example, if we did the sum with the factor 30 it would be 30 x 10 = 300 minutes. I always try and get a good hour in the shade before popping back out into the sun, as this gives my skin time to restore and cool down. I aways make sure I re-apply before heading back out in-to the sun. If you have a full-face of makeup on and you don’t want to re apply a cream, then the SKIN DEFENCE multi protection SPF 30 PA+++ face mist is a great handbag essential to have, as it effortlessly protects the skin whilst leaving your makeup in-place and looking on point.
My goodness I love this product. I use the hemp lip protector every night before bed. I always have one on hand for when I need it through out the day. This lip balm really does wonders with dry cracked and sore lips. Using this balm overnight and before makeup application has made a huge difference to the softness and appearance of my lips. My children are prone to getting really chapped lips in the winter months, so they each have a tube in their pockets at school, as we have had over-night results from this balm on their very first application.
This is my daily essential to effortless makeup. I love a quick, 5 minute simple and easy to do makeup look most days and the shimmer waves pallet is a multi use product making this possible. You can use it as an eye shadow to create multiple eye looks, a highlighter, my favourite thing to do is get my blusher brush and swirl it all around to create the most beautiful, fresh faced glow. It really does produces the most natural rosey cheeked dewy look.
I love to pop on my favourite foundation, do my brows, add that blush and my natural fresh-faced day look is done!
DID YOU KNOW? You can even use it on top op your favourite lip balm for that hint of colour and shimmer. Also this is mind-blowing… if you pop some on your hails and cover with a clear nail polish you can create a beautiful nail colour! This fact left me gob-smacked! Let me know if you try this!
Talking of my favourite foundation, the Fresh Nude foundation is the best I have EVER tried. – Yes I am a body shop at home consultant but I have been in-love with this foundation for many years before becoming a consultant…. There is a reason I became a consultant and that is through my love of the products and brand ethics. This foundation is Amazing, oh my goodness I cannot tell you enough how much I love it! This foundation is a beautiful, natural coverage, that leaves your skin looking beautifully healthy.
I always use the Fresh Nude Foundation Brush when applying this foundation. The brush has two layers of soft synthetic bristles, which effortlessly applies and blends out the foundation in moments, for that flawless finish.
#6 British rose petal-soft gel toner
An instant soothing ah… as soon as this gentle toner touches my skin. It instantly soothes the skin and helps to plump the face back up with hydration, bringing the skins natural Ph balance back after cleansing. Made with real British rose petals and enriched with Community Fair Trade Organic Aloe Vera this gentle gel toner not only looks beautiful, it feels and smells amazing too.
TIP FOR TONING! – Use a cold damp cotton pad or even better a reusable, washable cotton pad or small face sponge to apply the toner. As when the cotton pad or sponge is damp, the toner will sit on top, instead of absorbing in to the pad or sponge, leaving more product for you face, instead of wasting the majority of it on toning your sponge. *Shop the British Rose Petal-Soft Gel Toner https://tidd.ly/33Tubjf
Have you tried the body yoghurts yet? They are amazing! Gel-cream consistency these yoghurts soak in, in seconds! Perfect for on the go, theres no waiting around to get in your favourite skinny jeans.
After shaving, waxing or epilating, I find the yoghurts instantly sooth the skin and have helped to stop those red, raised bumps you can sometimes get from the irritation of the hair removal process.
My skin feels beautifully soft after using these yoghurts, they keep the skin moisturised for 48 hours. Enriched with Community Trade organic almond milk from Spain, which is great for nourishing the skin.
TOP TIP! – Keep body yogurts in the fridge for that extra cooling sensation. Perfect after a hard days work, or a day in the sun.
Silky and smooth and gorgeous to apply, this serum really does make me feel and look more youthful. I use this after cleansing and toning the skin, before moisturising.
Enriched with 3 plant stem cells, edelweiss, criste marine and sea holly, the serum helps to plump and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. It leaves my skin feeling silky soft and moisturised. Its made from 99% ingredients of natural origin, and antioxidants, to help protect skin from daily pollutants.
Try it for 30 days and let me know what you think? I defiantly noticed a difference.
This product will leave you speechless. I highly recommend that anyone who wears makeup or uses face paint to try this product! You won’t believe your eyes when you see this in action. It’s ever so gentle, formulated with sensitive skin-in-mind and yet it effortlessly melts away waterproof make up and face paint like nothing I have EVER tried before. I use this daily to remove even my most waterproof makeup and lip stain, and on the kids after they have been covered in face paint at the local summer fate. It really it’s so easy to use, simply get a small amount and massage into the face. Once you’ve gently massaged the face all over, use a damp face-cloth to wipe away the cleanser and makeup. Suitable for contact lens wearers and sensitive skin.
The ultimate product in my top 10 has to be the Vitamin C skin reviver. Oh my goodness, the very moment I received this after hearing so many amazing reviews, I was so impressed, that I went live on my facebook group to tell everyone all about it! I was truly blown away. First of all it smells amazing, this is the best product in the vitamin c range, in my opinion. It glistens, it’s so luminous and beautiful, it feels like silk on your skin.
When you apply it your skin feels velvety, fresh and wide awake. It gives you such a healthy glow. It smells so good that even your very soul feels awake. This product really has the feel good factor.
The vitamin C range is Jam packed with camu camu berries from the amazonian rainforest in Peru. These small berries contain 60 times more vitamin C than that of an orange! Mind-blown? – I was!
From the moment you open the lid you can smell the powerful fragrance and it instantly boosts the mood and awaken the senses. Imagine freshly picked, juicy oranges mixed with the sweetest smelling sherbet and you have the fragrance of the vitamin C collection.
I hope you have loved reading about my top ten products I love to use daily. Have you any favourites from my list? What are your top ten body shop products.
Below is a you tube video I filmed alongside this blog. If you would love to see more than please subscribe to my channel The Organic Yorkshire Rose
I love how nature effects us all and whilst we are all staying at home due to lockdown, it got me thinking about how products in the home could help boost our mood and help to relieve stress and anxiety. I recently did a meditation video on my YouTube channel as I wanted to help people get away for a few minuets whenever they wanted to release their mind and get away from any stress and worry Covd-19 may have implemented on everyones life.
So this got me thinking what else can we do in our homes to relax and boost our moods and metabolism. We all have access to exercise in our homes thanks to all the wonderful instructors on line sharing daily exercises videos and tips on social media and YouTube. As a family we have joined in with Joe Wicks AKA “The body coach” morning PE classes for kids and I’ve taken part in Strictly’s very own Janette Manrara’s ballet classes on Instagram.
We all know we should be filling our bodies with fruit and veg but this is currently hard to come by at the moment with bare shelves in the super-markets.
So I turned to my love of body shop products and decided to research more into what scents, essential oils, fruit, vegetable & plant extracts where in each product which could help boost everyones mood, relax and help with anxiety.
So after researching here is my list
Lime to clear the mind
Clear the mind for creativity and focus, lime is also a great stress reliever. It’s refreshing and stimulating scent relieves stress, exhaustion and anxiety.

Grapefruit to energise and stimulate
Energising and stimulating, grapefruit helps combat tiredness. Great for the body and mind, it helps to uplift the mind and detox the body. Did you know? Grapefruit helps to drain the lymphatic system. It also helps with cellulite and water retention. It tones the skin and helps ease aches and pains and great for tension headaches too.
Orange to uplift and rejuvenate
So versatile, not only is it uplifting and detoxifying, it also calming and rejuvenating. I know that when I use my “vitamin C skin reviver” I feel energised, awake and oh so happy. I am so happy to share with you all my body shop song. I have been playing the guitar for almost a year now, I have been teaching myself and recently started song writing.
My love of the body shop, (of course I am a body shop at home consultant) has given me the drive to have some fun a write this song. Fun, catchy and sure to be stuck in your head, this little number is enjoyable and was so much fun to make.
I have recently joined YouTube so I will be busy uploading tutorial videos and maybe even the odd song or two on a monthly/maybe even weekly basis, so please subscribe and like my videos to stay in the loop.
The simplest, gentlest way to cleanse your face after a day/night of full make up is to use the body shop’s Camomile cleaning butter. It feels like silk on your skin. Simply massage into your face or not so elegantly just rub it in and wipe off with a damp cloth or cotton pad. It’s actually quit fun to look in the mirror before wiping off… here is me looking like Joker.
No more need for wipes!!
The fully recyclable tin, it’s perfect for taking away on camping trips and Festivals, where finding a sink is limited. I went to Moonbeams festival earlier this year with my Dad. Whilst camping , I found the camomile cleaning butter perfect for taking away my full face of make up at 3am in my little tent. Every trace of makeup was removed by simply massaging a small amount of the balm into my face and wiping away with a face cloth and believe me, I went full on with the makeup! Bright red lipstick, eye-liner, star stamps on my temple and mascara.
With calming camomile extract from Norfolk England, the cleanser is suitable for the gentlest and most sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and found it felt gorgeous on my skin leaving it feeling silky, soft and moisturised. It so gentle its suitable for contact lens wearers, no more irritated eyes.
Im so pleased the body shop have brought out such an easy to use product that replaces the need for wipes which take years to disintegrate. Anything that does what is says on the tin and helps the environment gets a thumbs-up from me! Thank you Body Shop!

Me and Freya had some fun during Covid-19 lockdown. She drew on my face with face paints an I demonstrate how easily the cleansing balm melts away all traces of face paint.
Today I am feeling motivated for the present and the future with a head full of dreams and a heart filled with passion, i’m sat at my computer whilst the kids are at school and hubby is at work creating a magical space on the Web… My blog. I have a million ideas swimming in my head and now it’s time to put them into action.
With Rage against the Machine playing loudly in the background I set to work.. is it really work? It’s a passion and a dream, I am living my best life and having fun. I don’t believe work is the correct term here, maybe putting my dream into action is a better phrase.
I created my website a few years back but lost my way with what I really wanted to create. With a dream in my head and visions I still wasn’t sure what to do with it all. It has now all become clear. Since becoming part of TBSAH Family I now know what this space is to be used for. It’s here for me to share with you all my life as a Body Shop at home Consultant, my journey, my love and passion for the brand, its ethics, charities and to provide skincare and make-up tutorials along with healthy and fun recipes and a bit of music and fun along the way, as beauty starts within.
Wow its been so long since I last had the passion and power to to sit here at my computer and write a post for the wonderful world to see. Life happens and can take us on many paths. I’m very happy to say that my path has led me back here. Over the last year or so I have been on a journey of rest. I sat back and watched the world go by as I brought up my two little-ones and enjoyed family time. A lot has gone on, family members have come and gone and with those changes, many life lessons have come my way. Some lessons were questioning who I was and where I stood in the world and what worth is in my dreams. Today I feel like I have had a magical spring clean upon my soul and I am excited for life. I stand tall, proud and strong within my dreams and enjoy living and breathing them. If I am happy and those who I hold dear around me are happy, then life is good.
